Try anything Steve Berry, Michael Connelly, Daniel Silva or Nelson de Mille. He would enjoy all of those. Nelson de Mille's newest book Wildfire sounds right up his alley. Or Steve Berry's newest The Alexandria Link. Pax - C

How about some Leon Uris? He writes sweeping historical books, sort of like Michener and Rutherfurd.
His two most famous novels, both nice and juicy and long, are "Exodus", about the founding of the modern state of Israel, and "Trinity", about the problems in Northern Ireland and the roots of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, which later became the IRA. "Exodus" is a good book, but I absolutely love "Trinity". It is an engrossing story, and a fictionalized account of events, but it has a lot of correct historical information in it. I re-read it every couple of years because I like it so much.
If you want to go the mystery route, I cannot recommend PD James highly enough. Her mysteries are not formulaic, but rather highly intelligent, and very deep. Most of them involve her main detective, Adam Dalgliesh, who is himself a very deep and enigmatic character. James is widely recognized as one of the best mystery writers of all time. If you look her up, you can find out which of her Dalgliesh novels comes first (I cannot remember right now). She has two novels that have another detective in them, and one that has no detective ("Innocent Blood", one of my favorite books), and she has also written at least one piece of non-fiction. The mysteries don't need to be read in order, but since she continues to develop Adam Dalgliesh's character in each book, it is more pleasurable to read them in order.
I hope that is of some use to you.

I always loved the novel/play "death of a saleman". If your good to your father and he is proud of you I garentee he will cry his eyes out. Only problem is that it is short but much in the play to think about which is why it is also a movie. Check the movie out maybe to see how you like it, the book is a classic. Another one to get with it is "Tuesdays with Maury" which is a true story and a real tear jerker.

Sounds like he may really like books by Lawrence Sanders. Anything by him is good. Also, I didn't see Ken Follett on your list. His early works,"Key to Rebecca","Eye of the Needle", "The Man from St. Petersburg" are all bestsellers.
