I used to be scared about labor. Thinking that when I go into labor means that I will see my baby very soon makes labor seem like such a small thing in exchange for my baby.
Relax about it, the last you want is to go into labor afraid. It is a natural thing that women have been doing since the beginning of time. Some have done it over a dozen times, so it can't be that terrible!
Now a days, we have epidural. Once you arrive to the hospital, if you feel that you are having pain that you cannot deal with , ask for it. You won't feel any pain at all afterwards. And no, it is not wrong to go with an epidural as many women say. I am a firm believer that some people can just deal with stress and pain better than others. And not being able to deal with it "better", does not make you less of a mother or person.
Your fears are normal. Why don't you try educating yourself as much as possible with Childbirth. I think the more you know about it and what your options are, the better and more prepared you feel. I'm registering for Childbirth classes for this reason. I want to make Isure 'm prepared, atleast with knowledge. Going into something that you know about is much better than going into it blind folded!
By the way. I am also 7 months tomorrow! I'm due August 22!
Well, good luck and hope you have a great labor and very healthy baby!!

I had an epidural with my son. I look back on it now and wish I hadn't. I wasn't in THAT much pain and could have just gotten by with meds in my IV. Wait until you get to the hospital and are in labor before making a decision. Your labor contractions are going to hurt A LOT more than your Braxton Hicks' contractions. Don't let that scare you though. I am 25 weeks with a girl now and I plan on just getting pain meds through my IV if my labor pains aren't too bad. They say it's better with number 2 most of the time. Good luck !

It is scary thinking about it but remember if the pain was that bad no woman would have more than one child. The gas & pethidine take the edge off the pain. An epidural will take it away totally but you need to have a needle injected straight into your spine & sometime you don't have the time to get this done. I've had all 3 on each of my labours. You're midwife or whom ever you have will be able to advice you better what you should try depending on how your labour is going.

While I'm not as experienced as a friend of mine (who's given birth in every way I can think of short of the back of a bus on the way to mexico LOL), I can say that with my first I was really glad to have the epidural. Make sure you get the kind that eases up after a certain point in the labor though. If you don't, it can make it harder to push when the time comes. I have given birth without the epidural and that has it's advantages too. The birth went MUCH quicker without them. I dialated faster, it was easier to push, and my son was born faster. It just hurt a whole bunch more. Ultimately it depends on your own preference though. Do you want a moderately quick but hard delivery or a longer but easier (as far as pain goes) delivery.

Wait until you get there before worrying!!! All labours are different and you can decide what pain relief you want then. Don't worry yourself silly about it - Mother Nature made us to be able to go through it, after all. And don't get scared listening to other peoples descriptions of their labours either! You might just be one of the lucky ones - and remember you will have a beautiful baby at the end of it, and believe me, you soon forget the pain.

Epidurals can be a bit hit and miss as well - take the advice of your midwife or doctor when it all happens. Good luck.

I was in labor for 4 days (light labor) I finally started contracting 5 mins. apart and went to the hospital. 18 hours of labor and i got an epidural, they're great! I had to have a c-section because of a few problems but i was in labor until the contracts came 1/2 min. apart so i would suggest the epidural. I was like you scared to death, having night mares that i would die, I even got a will because of the fear. It was a breeze. I know it is impossible to think that your body knows what it can handle and knows what to do but it does you put yourself in a mind frame that this is something to accomplish and look forward to. Relax it puts stress on the baby and trust me through all the fear that your having from experience i know you will be ok.

Epidural. If your in too much pain how can you possibly enjoy the birth? I had an epidural with all three of mine.
