Darkness is simply absence of light. So, when light is there darkness cannot exist. When daylight comes, darkness goes to the other side of earth which has turned away from light.

One thing that you will notice is that light always overcomes the darkness. Your can have a completely black room and light a match and it will light up the room so you can see. Any time there is a hint of light it will overtake the darkness. The darkness goes to the other side of the earth when daylight comes to us and so forth. Just always remember you can never have enough darkness to over take the light. Even a tiny match that is lit can over take darkness. Isn't that interesting? Also the Bible describes God as being Light. I find that quite interesting also. Also once you reach the speed of light there is no longer tine. Time no longer exists once you reach the speed of light and nothing will ever age once you reach the speed of light.

Imagine daylight. U can see everything because, light from Sun is being reflected by various objects in the earth into your eyes.
If the objects fail to reflect any light into your eyes than you dont see anything.
Darkness and Light are 2 sides of the same coin, they never meet yet they exist back to back.
As daylight comes in, the object which were not reflecting any light (since there was no light), gradually begins to reflect light to the eyes making us feel that drakness has vanished.

that's simple! as the earth rotates around the sun it spins and as it does so one part faces away from the sun and the other is facing it when the part that faces the sun finally has rotated for a full 24 hours earth time it has shifted away from the sun while the other side that was in the dark is now in the sun! it does this every 24 hours!

It's cast on the earth by a "dark star" that shines darkness on the earth at night time.... HA HA!
Seriously: Darkness is merely the absence of light. No photons... you have darkness... lots of photons, you have light. That's like asking where all the empty space go in the driveway when you park your car there....

Darkness is the absence of light energy. When you switch on a light the filament heats and emits photons (and heat). These bounce of objects and hit your eye, and the brain interprets them. At dusk, the Sun is on the horizon, and the light travels through a lot more atmosphere, filtering out all but the red, and descends below that horizon, taking it's photons with it.

You are viewing light and darkness on a basis of duality. We have white light, super light, sunlight, bright light, etc. When we have no light, we call it darkness. Darkness is not the opposite of light, just the absence of light. If darkness existed as a substancial entity, we should have been able to make darkness darker, which is not possible.
According to your philosophy, you should also be asking where life goes when death occurs and where death goes when life occurs. Here, too, death is not the opposite of life, just the absence of it.
Hope that resolves your query

the essence of light is the essence of darkness. without light there is no darkness. vice versa. so if you were wondering where darkness goes when light comes, the answer is darkness doesn't go anywhere. For if darkness is gone then you cannot call it light.
Confused, huh? Me too, actually... lol...
