You are going to have so many answers you wont know what to do with all of the ideas. So the best thing is to research the problem to find a solution. This seem to be a common question in this category. Most people are not even aware that there are only 2 kinds of bamboo when they plant.
Running bamboo.....highly invasive and is grown with a system of rhizomes.
Clumping bamboo.........non invasive and a regular root system.

HERE IS MY ANSWER FROM 1 DAY AGO
GOOD LUCK TO YOU

...............Only 2 kinds of bamboo
................ running and clumping
Clumping bamboos have rhizomes that grow only a short distance before sending up new culms.
Running bamboos have rhizomes that produce long offshoots before sending up new culms.

"If you leave behind even the tiniest bit of root or rhizome, you'll have more bamboo,"
If a neighboring bamboo is infiltrating your yard, there are several ways to treat the problem. Keep in mind that the rhizomes are like underground stems and can travel long distances as well as under fences. Rhizomes must be removed with a sharp tool. You can mow the young shoots to maintain some control, but you'll have to mow often.

Hi. If you want to stop bamboo runners from spreading try the following. Get concentrated Sodium chlorine not ordinary table salt from a farm suppliers. By a very small container or better still see if the neighbors will give you just the small amount you need in a container marked corrosive and with a sealed lid for the first time. Be very carefull this is a very strong corrosive substance. You must ware rubber gloves under gardening gloves, Safety glasses and and old boiler suit to cover your body. This stuff will burn your skin if you get it on it. Put a sample of the chloride in a small container, in a second container put some water. Don't mix the two. Cut a stem off the bamboo and use the cut end to dip in the water then the chloride and apply to the stump of the bamboo.
1. Its the correct shape for the cut and will apply an even coat of the chloride
2. Use it to push some of the chloride into the hollow of the stem
3. You need to do this to every stem that you wish to remove every year so you will need to store this compound in a very safe place which is dry and airy if you have any left. Don't throw it down the drain. Ask the dealer how to dispose of the remains he should be able to help if he is any good.
4.Cut the piece of bamboo used as the applicator up and burn the piece use as applicators. The remaining can be used to support plants once it has dried for about 120 days off the ground otherwise it may take root.
5. Throw away the glove in the bin and wash out the safety glasses and launder the boiler suit don't do other jobs with it on it may have traces of chloride on it which will scorch the grass where you kneel to dig out a weed for example. washing it at low temps will remove the chloride and make it ready for the next use.
6. Don't let the children or animals near the site for at lease a week cover it with plastic and peg it down to exclude them better still do the treatment whilst they are away at a relative for a week. Safe rather than sorry. If it is only a few stems stake yougurt pots over them with metal tent pegs for a week to stop the chloride comming incontact with the skin.

You may need some sort of underground barrier to stop the rhizomes from spreading.

If you want to keep the existing plants, then you could put in a concrete barrier, or possibly one of metal, ceramic, heavy plastic, or even pressure-treated wood (last resort due to chemicals). Some growers dig a trench around the plants and leave it open to the air so the rhizomes have no place to spread, or install a water feature around the plant (like a moat), which also prevents spread.

If you want bamboo, but are willing to start over again, you could keep cutting it down until the existing plants are exhausted, dig up the area, then replant in containers either above ground or sunk in the ground. These containers would have to be sturdy and long-lasting, or the bamboo will start to run again.
