a lobbyist is a person hired by a company, government entities or any group to advocate for their interest to the Legislature. a lobbyist is very much like a sales person, he/she sells his/her clients agenda/interest to the legislators for it to be included in a bill or law. to become a lobbyist you must have excellent communication skills.
if you're a student or a new graduate, the best way to start your career in the legislative advocacy field is to apply for internship in a legislative advocacy firm or for a lobbyist. if you are already employed and would like to transition to this field, your best bet is to accept any position in a lobbying firm and try to learn as much as you can while working there and express your interest of becoming a lobbyist. most lobbying companies would entertain training you if you show potentials.

A lobbyist is someone who promotes a company's or a group's agenda in legislature.
The company would have to be big enough to afford you.
