No. A swim team is for well acheived swimmers. Try a novice class to begin with, until you are more confident!
Good luck!

There are newly formed teams that are still in the instruction level so check with the coach of the team you want to join. My advice is that you take lessons. Chances are if you can't swim you won't make the team. Plus swim teams are not for teaching, they are for competing. Having to teach lessons is a waste of resources for the coaching staff. Lessons are offered to non-swimmers in order to instrcuct them in the baiscs. Swim teams are a place for developed, competitive atheletes to hone their skills and increase their efficiency and speed. Lessons will give you a background in the basics before you try your hand at competing. Plus. swimmers work very hard and without proper training you will not be able to keep up. Swimming is also an expensive hobby with the memberships required so you should make sure you like it before you sign up!

Most teams have requirements for their swimmers or hold tryouts. In most cases, if you walk into a tryout and cannot complete a 25 you will not make the team, it's that simple. Some teams have time requirements as well and most require swimmers to be proficient in all four strokes.

Good luck with learning!

I assume you're still in high school. I highly doubt that you'll be able to join the team without first learning how to swim, I'm pretty sure that would be the preqrequisite for the team.

If you want to learn to swim, why not go to your local community part and sign up for lessons?

Ask the coach.

Swimming is mainly back and shoulder strength, plus sme legs. Weak lats, can't swim. Lat power, swim easy.

Also, some people have trouble keeping water out of their noses.
