No, that movie was pretty gory for the big screen, but you have to sell out and tame the movie a bit or else you won't make a large profit return for your work making the film. That movie was weak in the eyes of hardcore horror films. I'll say that the scissors scene is probably new to the American big sceen, with the whole male frontal action, but even that didn't look real enough to contend with the Masters (in my opinion)of horror filmmaking. Alfred Hitchcock never had elaborate effects or gore, but his use of suspense to tell the story is what sets him apart from the directors of the "internet age". Directors these days know that horror fans visit gory websites like rotten.com and they think that they have to top that in order to conjure any response from us.

As far as the lady in the tub scene is concerned. It is modeled after and is reminiscent of the 15th century Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory "Countess Dracula", so its nothing new or shocking to us hardcore fans. The only thing that could be deemed that shocking was that its was drawn out. It wasn't like all the other "punchline" type of deaths you see in typical slasher films where the audience usually laughs. There is no gimmick like in the Nightmare on Elm Street series. I can't take a killer who makes jokes seriously. Hostel is what it is, without any intended entertainmant value. Its job is to scare you, not make you laugh. Its still lame though...lol.

If you really want to see hardcore stuff, watch ICHI THE KILLER, a Japanese film by director Takashi Miike. Although its considered a gangster film, the torture scenes do not pull away. There is a scene where the main character pours oil heated in a frying pan and pours it on a guy he is interrogating. There is also the Japanese film series, Guinea Pig, a collection of gory films, although corny. But the one film in the series, THE DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT was a fake snuff film that at once was anonymously made and distributed on VHS to random people in the 80's by Japanese art students. Charlie Sheen got a hold of it and reported it to the FBI thinking it was real. A Japanese serial killer used this film as inspiration...to "train" himself and reenact some of the things done in the film. This film series is illegal there now to this day, along with the idea of making future films by this name/genre.

Lastly, the worst thing one can watch, other than getting your hands on police video evidence made by serial killers, would be footage of real deaths, (maybe that why detectives become the way they are and end up usually having bad family lives) like in the film series TRACES OF DEATH. Its basically stuff you can't see on the news. I'll leave it at that. I like to consder myself a hardcore horror fan. I've taken autopsy classes for med school and also discovered a boy who committed suicide by hanging himself when I was in high school. All that and I have a morbid curiosity and sense of humor...but even after watching traces of death, I still was a bit disturbed. So DONT watch these shows unless you want to become "scarred" regardless of your age...that is unless you are a Serial Killer yourself...lol.

No, I actually laughed through the movie, especially the tub scene. I had no idea what was going on, it just looked like some weird old lady with a blood fetish. I got a kick out of it, gore just doesn't get to me any more.

observed a million. It replaced into extra clever and ingenious. something of the observed video clips are respectable as much as now as serial slasher/torture porn video clips bypass, yet no longer something specific. Hostel had no redeeming features by any means. It merely sucked.
