I think its really nasty when women lift weights because its like they want to be like men. I think a woman's arm strength should come from picking up babies, little children, and things around the house. Maybe some gardening as well, but not lifting weights.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not just about eating right and aerobic activity. Medical professionals constantly state than strength training must occur along with aerobic training. Say a woman is working on losing weight (could be after having a child). You want her to regain her muscle tone, right? You can't do that by picking up babies and doing housework alone. That's just not enough. Going to the gym and doing strength training with the aerobic activity will help her lose the weight and regain her muscle tone. She will be healthier in the long run. It's not about "being like a man", but about health and the body being finely tuned.

Who has time to go to the gym.

I keep a set of 8 lb weights at home. It's a great substitute for massage and takes all the stress out of my neck and shoulders. (makes that taut "strung like a guitar string" feeling go away....)

I also utilize the leg weights at PT. They want to build some endurance in my left leg, which is missing a LOT of hamstring and some sartoris due to tumors.

Sometimes, since women are people, and people each have their own crosses to bear, sometimes it's not about you, dear.....

P.S. Weight bearing exercise fights osteoporisis which tends to be prevalent in women.

No medical degree for you.

Both women and men should exercise. It helps combat against major illness and even diseases. Sometimes, the only proper (safe) place to get exercise is at the gym. I know, in the city I live in, I would never go running late at night. The gym affords people the opportunity to exercise whenever they want to, sometimes even staying open 24 hours.

Sandstorm, you should remember that not EVERY woman has children and not EVERY woman cleans the house. I believe exercising at the gym is a healthy habit to have, for either sex.

Do you put women down so much because your afraid the world will find out how small your penis is or is it to hide the fact that your gay? Or maybe your one of the" things" your wife lifts around the shack. I was thinking maybe it's because you don't have a life but a lot of people don't. They just get dogs or take up a new hobby so you must have issues poor baby.

convinced, very sexist and stupid. Your recommendations-set shows a experience of male entitlement. except you own the health center or pay better, women individuals are as entitled to apply ther equipment as you're. And your concept that women individuals attempt to compete with adult adult males because they elevate weights is completely extraordinary. If some thing, women individuals must be doing extra weight-bearing workout than adult adult males to guard hostile to osteoporosis.

wow. no, women's muscles aren't designed to get as bulky and defined as men's, but in order to tone up, light weight lifting is essential. but of course any exercise is done in the time between caring for the kids, vacuuming the house, and cooking dinner for the men, though. right?

uh....no....women can do whatever they want & men need to quit being insecure with their own selves & get over it. Although I love gardening & doing all the womenly things as long as THE MAN can bring home enough money to support me & the lifestyle that a REAL MAN has made me become accustomed to. So step up REAL MEN & pay us our due!! Thank you for asking this question, my good man.....

I do not think it is wrong for women to lift weights at the gym. It actually helps to tone the underlining chest muscles and helps to "perk up" those sagging boo.bies that you men love so much.
