Was the "Mission" actually to create a pre-trained and ideologically motivated insurgency that would help accomplish this administrations true goal; A long drawn out war that would be used to funnel huge amounts of US money into the hands of Contractor cronies of Bush and his father in order to bilk this country out of billions. It is in affect the most successful and largest con job ever played.

If the goal was to make Bush, Cheney, and their friends even richer by creating a never-ending war to feed the Military-Industrial Complex then, indeed, the mission was successfully accomplished.

I have always thought that episode represents one of those rare moments in human history when a person stands at the very moment of possible greatness only to fail to see it, even when it is ‘literally’ staring them in the face..

If Bush had only followed what was written on the White House’s own ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner and announced the immediate withdrawal of all US troops, he might have lucked his way into History’s Hall of Fame as a political genius.

At that stage, Iraq probably would have sorted itself out (one way or another) before the 2004 Presidential elections and Bush would have been so popular that no Democrat would have dared run against him. Even if Iraq had blown up after we left, Bush could have fallen back on the “see I told you so” argument and still claimed a major political victory.

Bush has always been driven by his lust for personal and historically lasting glory and, were the situation not so dire and serious, it would be hysterically funny that he missed the opportunity because he was too stupid to read the answer that was written by his own aides and that he personally approved. It is still a great irony, nevertheless.

-------------------------
Aunt Acid –

Have you been living in one of Osama Bin-Laden’s old caves?

Every non-partisan Middle East expert in the world (and, in fact, anyone with any knowledge of the region) said that the most likely outcome would be a civil war.

Or, how about this as an example disproving your ridiculous statement - “NO ONE COULD HAVE PREDICTED THIS MESS WE ARE IN NOW”:

Would you believe the President’s own father?

All anyone had to do was read the book Bush’s father wrote in 1998 (‘A World Transformed’). In it, he - Bush the Wiser - explains why invading Iraq and removing Hussein from power would:

1.result in America becoming stuck in a no-win Vietnam-like quagmire;

2.result in America losing its friends and allies;

3.result in America losing its standing in the world and its ability to lead and influence international political events;

4.result in jeopardizing America’s own interests in the Middle East, undoing decades of intense effort to put ourselves in a position to be politically effective in the region;

5.result in increased hardship for both those who live in the Middle East and America’s own citizens; and

6.further destabilize the already volatile region with the possibility of causing regional (or greater) armed conflict.

If Bush had listened to his real father instead of the imaginary one he hears in his head we would not be in this mess.

Now, don’t you feel stupid, huh?

Well, Bush is not credible.

Some of you have stated that 9/11 was the instigation for the attack of 9/11. Even Bush said this to be untrue. The invasion of Iraq was to search and destroy WMD. Then,suddenly this invasion mission became, falsy , a mission to take out Saddam and crew.

Now that this has happened why are we still there? Why don't we follow what Trump has said, "just leave and say we won" Boy we sure have a genious there! Just cut and run! To hell with the Iraqis who have suffered through hell -- let them go on as usual.

What would you be able to do? with no way to run your business, limited water, sewage problems, bombed homes and businesses. Like how to survive. Going to school. Playing. My goodness we have screwed up here.

Of course he didn't mean it! The Mission Accomplished statement was nothing but a crock of doody! You are completely correct in your additional details statement! This war was never intended to be won. It was intended to last as long as they could get away with keeping it going. They are still getting away with the biggest con job ever played on the people of this country!

the true plan was to stop sanctions from being dropped against saddam allowing him to flood the world oil market and drive prices down. when bush said mission accomplished it was true that mission was accomplished. the missiion now is to be able to install a sunni dictator that will be acceptible to the saudis and the oil companies. a fellow that will make sure oil flows to the right people in the right amount. that will be the final mission accomplished.

you know whats wrong with this whole situation, its the daddy son thing it never works out. It reminds of the old saying " history repeats itself" which it does because this has happend before during the early american history. what im talking about are the adams, the father of course was the second president and his son was the 6th president but the reason why john quincy adams' term wasnt an enjoyable one was because he tryed to get things done that his dad failed at and thus no one at all liked him not for that reason but for what he was trying to do.

yeah the mission of major combat operations was complete. but being blindsided by the political propaganda wheel isn't. you really have to step back and look at the big picture. the middle east is a problem. radical terrorism and rouge states. i don't buy that it was/is a big scam as far as bush goes, no one is that far above the law. if there was any truth to it bush would be sitting behind bars right now. it also makes me realize the instability of human opinion and people that say they have your back. humanity is truly like a sea of water with hidden currents and turbulent under toes that can be hard to navigate... i wish it was as simple as letting them take israel as if they would stop there. truth is it can and might get alot worse. i hope people wake up before we have a bunch of idiots over here taking our freedom and liberty away...

The true plans (plural) were not shared with the public except in parts. It's called "national security". We don't often publicize our military and foreign policy plans just to please seditious people who side with our enemies (even indirectly).

You can prove that in court...

...or you can continue to seditiously spread unfounded rumors and treat President Bush (and worse, anyone associated with him by virtue of...well...association) as "guilty until proven innocent.

A more unAmerican act I don't know of. It is contemptible. It was contemptible when it was done with Former President Clinton. It's contemptible now.

I am a democrat.

You do not speak for me.

How many silent democrats out there are letting you speak for them by staying silent? How about it, folks? She hasn't learned the difference between legitimate and patriotic disagreement/dissent/protest vs. sedition. Will you remain silent while she does this? She shouldn't stop speaking up, that's censorship. But she should expect that every patriotic American that hears her will use their free speech as well.

We're tired of the conspiracy theories with no proof, no impeachment, not court case, just repeated rumors and distortions. They did the same thing to Former President Clinton and got him for having sex out of wedlock, for Pete's Sake! You're joining those people? You really think it's any less seditious and unAmerican because it's a republican?

I'm a democrat. I'm a patriot, first.

Mission Accomplished was the over-throw of an evil Dictator who wanted to do us harm.
No one could have predicted this mess we are in now.
We should just blow them up and WIN. Bombing a city back to the stone age sends a powerful signal not to mess with the U S of A!
