Do not use Carmex - it contains salicylic acid which promotes cell turnover (peeling). Avoid lip balms w/ mint - it is an irritant.
Best lip moisturizers: Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Kiehl's Lip Balm #1, plain Vaseline
Tip: use a soft, old toothbrush to brush flakes off your lips before applying lip balm OR make a paste of honey & sugar to gently rub off flakes, rinse well before applying balm.

I have the same problem and I was told NOT to use carmex because it had medication in it which causes your lips to peel. I tried using vaseline. I would let my lips get dry and chapped and I would put the vaseline right over the dead skin instead of wiping it off and within 2 weeks, the skin came off on it's own and my lips were soft and supple.
I am like you. I had tried everything under the sun including exfoliating my lips. Vaseline is the best thing for you.

Try exfoliating them once in a while and then moisturizing. Keep that up and your lips will always be smooth. I exfoliated mine with brown sugar with a little bit of oil and it took the dead skin right off! I use Blistex over it and my lips are still smooth even though I exfoliated it a couple days ago. Burts Bee's is good, but sometimes it dries out my lips. I think Blistex Mint works the same but it's way cheaper. Also there's a duo called "Restore" and "Revive" from Blistex and it works really good! Try some Nivea products as well!

I honestly think Carmex is the best. It's soothing, medicated, and moisturizing. Sorry to say, but when it comes to your lips, there isn't a product out there you aren't going to have to keep reapplying. Also, try a little vitamin E oil on your lips at night. Rub it in well and don't leave it shiny or it will stain your pillow cases. You have to be diligent about it...do it EVERY NIGHT...or it won't do you any good.

Put Vaseline on them at night and just keep up with the moisturizing lip balms/chap sticks during the day.

I don't like applying lip balms all the time either, but I live in CO and the high altitude sort of makes it necessary at times. :) When mine get really bad, I usually apply a small amount of Vaseline to them, especially when they sting really bad. Try that if you haven't already.

ok well tyra banks taught me this lol: get a toothbrush and put some vaseline on it and brush your lips with it! they'll be really soft. trust me, ive tried. and make sure its not the same toothbrush that u use on your teeth!...put vaseline on your lips every night too. vaseline works wonders for everything. and i use the "soft lips" brand chapstick thats in vanilla flavor, and they've also got cherry and unscented. its great. good luck!

please try Blistex its way better and softer than carmex when applied and its medicated so if ur lips are cracky or peeling it helps with the soreness. If ur lips are just simply dry not compromised, then use Softlips its like velvet on the lips

I apply Soft Lips before I go to bed. Best I've found. Has sunscreen in it too, so I use it under my lipstick or by itself for protection. You can get it at Walmart.
