You are right. (Politely) Tell your teacher/professor to check his/her decimal placement.

You are correct on this one. Anytime you have a fraction, like 9/20, you are dividing the numerator by the denominator. In this case, it would be 9 divided by 20, which is .45. Look at it this way, 9/20 is very close to 10/20 or 1/2. Therefore, its decimal value is going to be very close to .5.

9/20, the 20 make it to 100
so it is times 5

when 20 times 5 (=100)
9 also need to times 5 (=45)

9/20 = 45/100

45 = 45.00 when devided by 100 -> 0.45

How about getting out your calculator and figuring it out. Yes, 0.45 is right. Then go complain to the teacher.

When you know that you are right (and your teacher insist 'a wrong answer' is correct) you can explain it logically (and politely) like...

(Madam / Sir!) I first I did 9/2 and answer is 4.5

Then shifted a decimal place because 20 is having a zero in it . So it became 0.45

If teacher has sense, he/she will understand meaning of it!

Even after your explaining, some teachers would not like to admit mistakes in front of you! They might try to hurt you...

However, explaining matters logically is a need !

Please do that!

Regards!
