I have heard that it may be more efficent to just keep it on instead of shutting it off and restarting it. Is this the truth? Does th amount of time you will be waiting really matter?

If your going to be idleing for more than 30 seconds its better to turn it off. The startup energy required for most cars is approximately the same amount of fuel you'll use in 30 seconds of idleing. So by turning your car off helps save the environment.

You get the worst MPG when you are not getting any MILE per any gallon.

You should turn off your engine anytime you have to wait. I would agree with the post above about 30 seconds. But in reality that would wear out the starter motor if if turned on your car for every red light, etc.

Yes its actually better to keep your car on if its for a short period because it saves you some gas if you are going to leave it for long period of time it is better to turn it off!

definitely turn it off, cars give off carbon monoxide a highly poisonous gas i heard of someone who died b/c of leaving a car on. Oh, and gas prices sure arent a picnic if u no wat im saying.

its not good for a motor to just idle for long periods of time but if its cold or hot you need to stay comfy.could harm engine.but not likley unless you do it often any allways for hrs.
