I know infants sleep pretty much all the time. But something doesn't seem right. She usually doesn't sleep like this. She usually is awake for an hour or two then sleeps for an hour or two. And so on. Well that's pretty much how she is. Today at around 1 I gave her a bottle and took the whole 8 ounces. She fell asleep at around 2:30. At around 5 she started to wake up, well she started crying out and sucking on her fingers. I figured she was going to wake up and want to eat. So I made her a bottle. It took her awhile to drink it and she only took about 3 ounces before she started falling alseep when sucking. So I took it out and laid her back down. She's whined and woke up for a few minutes a couple times since then but thats it. I tried to wake her up a little while ago to eat and again she just took a few ounces. I took her temperature and its normal. My mom said she may just be really tired. Should I take her to the doctor or am I just worrying for nothing?

this happened to my baby too! he is also 3 months and usually very awake during the day. well, a few weeks ago he slept for nearly 10 hours, only waking up once to eat 4 ounces. and this was during the day. i kept trying to wake him to eat, but he wasn't having it. i was worried sick! i called my mom, freaking out and she assured me that it was normal. i still wasn't convinced, so i called his doctor who also assured me that it was "normal". i think we just get used to one pattern, and then when baby changes it, it freaks us out. i hope everything works out for the best!

that is pretty normal for babies...they go through growth spurts where, depending on the baby b/c everyone is a little different...some will eat more or less than usual or sleep more or less than usual. my daughter is going through the same things, and i conferred with the doc and she said the same thing. as long as she is eating (for my daughter cus she is tiny 20 oz withing 24 hrs) its okay that she sleeps longer. if she is truly hungry, they will eat as much as they need. so don't worry that she is sleeping a lot...it the spurts they go through are for a day or two and then are back to normal, which at that time she will probably have a healthier appetite. if you are uncomfortable about the situation call your doc...that is what they are there for. you aren't the only mother to be calling and asking questions like this, that is what they do and are prepared to answer. don't ever second guess, if it makes you feel better call the doc...i call for the stupidest things probably but it makes me feel better so i will continue doing it...best of luck and don't worry...:o)

Once, my son was sick and slept for almost 24 hours. He woke up and ate just a little bit in that entire time.

I used the opportunity to catch up on my own sleep because I knew the next day would be a tough one.

Don't worry, get some rest, three month olds are still very tough to take care of.

Probably just having a growth spurt. Some babies like to sleep a lot when they have one. Others and other growth spurts they eat. I wouldn't worry too much but if you're still feelign uncomfortable call your doctor.

I agree completely! If she has no fever, and no other things like diarrhea or vomiting(like dehydration). Babies go through many growth spurts in the first year. 3months is a BIG one...she should be like her 'normal' self in a couple of days.

Good Luck
