It is likely what is called a "Direct Drive" motor meaning there is no belt, if this is the case, the bearings are likely what you are hearing, the motor should be replaced, keep in mind you will need some tools to do this, possibly a hub puller.

BUT, if it is belt driven, it may be as easy as changing the belt and checking the tension. Good Luck.

Maybe the fan blades are loose? Take a look at the bolts that support it, and keep it together, these could also be loose.

Try WD-40 if that doesnt work. But keep that away from any parts that are electrical, or might heat up, because Im pretty sure it's flammable.

Good Luck!!

The piece of equipment that makes use of the most electricity is the compressor outdoors. So in case you go away the fan contained in the "on" position, you'll proceed to pass the air round contained in the abode. the mixture of air will save the temperature on your position extra even, and could usually provide you with the impression that that's cooler contained in the abode. this can make it easier as an example the thermostat up some stages. The indoor fan many times in ordinary words pulls about an amp or 2 to save the motor operating, even as the compressor outdoors will pull between 12-25 amps even as it runs. So the trick is to do inspite of you could to save the compressor from operating. yet an extra reason to go away the fan contained in the "on" position is for dirt and allergic reactions. The extra situations you cycle air for the time of your clear out, the cleanser you'd manage to save the air. ultimately- the quantity of humidity you %. up from the coils is a non-situation, because once the compressor kicks off, the coils are not chilly adequate to save gathering moisture- and are dry to the contact in a remember of seconds.

If you haven't confirmed the noise is coming from the fan...

We had a noisy AC that was due to a squeak grate. It would vibrate when in operation - sounded like a squeaky fan. Tightening the springs that hold the grate fixed my problem.

May not be the problem, but if it is, it is cheap and easy to fix.

The motor is probably going bad. If you are lucky you might be able to find a motor rebuild shop that can rebuild it.

If it has sealed bearings you can look for a new one at this website http://americanhvacparts.com/. They are a little high on prices but they usually have what I need.
