my standard is to tip what I can afford. I tip a dollar at the buffet as I get my own food...the waiter just brings my water and picks up my dirty dishes..not a lot of work for a buck..

i don't go to expensive restaurants as my wife is a good cook and like to cook..this is her preference too...she used to own her own restaurant and don't trust the hygiene of the food handlers..they don't wash their hands..blow their noses and go back to serving your food ..germs everywhere...they also serve food past its prime..this cuts down the profit margin...

so tipping is for those who can afford to blow their money..not for the average Joe or Jane just getting by paying their bills

You always have to remember servers make less than minimum wage. Standard is 10% for ok service 15% for good service and 20% for excellent service. This includes both food and alcohol. It was always great to have regular customers leave an extra few dollars above that 20%. Many times waitstaff doesn't get tipped the standard 10%. When I was working for a casino waiting tables I sometimes had to claim more than I made for tax purposes based on my total sales for the night. That little extra really helped. It just depends on the service, but never leave nothing. Unless it's an exceptional situation.

anywhere between %10-%20. Depends on the restaurant. As a standard for good service, I tip 5 dollars when it is below $50. More than that gets %10. If it is over $100, some places add the tip in the check, others will simply let you fill in the blank. If it was good, I would say around $10-$20. The more upscale, the more you leave.

The standard used to be 10%, but that's considered low these days, and would be something you'd give for very basic service. Okay service = 15%. Really good service = 20% or more.

I work on a Chinese buffet and I would suggest five percent for average service and ten percent for good service. People usually make from $35 to $50 on a busy night. This is the usual range, though I have made up to seventy.

For a coffee shop, I would omit a tip except for a dollar or two for exceptional service involving specialty coffees and/or a lunch or dinner entree. Not worth it to tip for a cup of coffee being poured.

Fast food is rarely tipped, but some Tim Horton's employees do make tips. This is completely optional and based on what the customer deems as appropriate.

For a steakhouse, pizzeria, nightclub, diner or any casual place, I would tip at ten percent and fifteen percent if the service is exceptional.

Only for fine dining would I automatically tip twenty percent or more, as it requires years of training, wine knowledge, charm, elegance and a certain agility. I don't care much for fine dining myself, since I am more likely to go to a diner, pancake house, pub or sushi bar, but that would be the standard. I figure if I can get a couple glasses of wine from a pub, why go for an expensive bottle at a French restaurant? I can cook it myself or buy the wine.

From 10% to 20%, 10 is the normal standard and I think the double is fair enough for a really good service.

15% + depends on your service. BTW if you can't afford to tip, go to fast food or cook. And if you're a bad tipper and you frequent a restaurant, you get the service you are known for tipping so remember that. Most of us servers are full time college students and don't make more than minimun wage, which here in Cali is $7.50 hrly.

Standard is 15-20%, depending on the service you get. If you go with a group they will usually put 18% on your tab automatically.

I'm a server. A 20% tip is average. If the server was terrible - 10%. If the service was awesome - anything above 20% is nice. I've gotten a 50% tip before which was nice!
Just remember - servers her $2.13/hour. Ultimately you as the guest are the one who pays them with the tip.
