have to work that i must be bored to death? my acquaintances and some friends that still have to work say that all the time, like i have nothing to do all day! just because you stay home does not mean you have nothing to do. the last time i checked.....no one comes and does my laundry, cleans my house or cooks.......those are just a few, why do they feel the need to put their two cents in?

I would think that they are jealous that you don't have to work anymore. I work full time and have to take on all the cooking, cleaning, and laundry. I WISH I could stay home and take care of the house, and get in some things that I enjoy doing, like fostering dogs who have medical problems until they are healthy enough to go to a new home. That is what I wish I could do. Just shrug them off, and do what makes you happy. Life is too short to do something you don't enjoy.

I know what you mean. A few years ago I took a few months off to travel and see the world and my grandmother kept asking if I was bored! She said "If you're not working then what are you doing with your time over there? You must be really bored." I just thought to myself things like 'Mmm, I'm at the top of the Empire State Building looking over the New York skyline but I really wish I was working because I'm so bored! NOT!' and "Mmm, I'm sitting here on Manly beach watching the world go by and all the beach antics and topping up my tan but I really wish I was at work I'm so bored! NOT!'. She was so old bless her :o) Also, I'm now a stay-at-home mum and people assume I'm bored. It's like the dinner always mysteriously cooks itself and the bathroom always cleans itself and my husband's undies magically clean themselves and jump into his undies drawer all by themselves (I wish they would!). People just assume that everybody is interested in their opinions and they feel like they have to share. Pretty arrogant really when you think about it.

Well, I don't know why you no longer have to work. How old are you? If it is because you are a stay at home mother, than yes-that is a job in itself. However, I think that you should still be capable to work outside of the home. All of the women in my family who had kids chose to still work and raise their children at the same time as well as clean the house and cook dinner every night by 6-7 pm. It's possible, so if that is the case-I could see how some people may think that you could still work.
But, like I said-I don't know your circumstances.

It's really none of their damn business how you spend your day. I was a housewife for over 10 years while my children were young. I heard that a lot. I do work full time now and I understand both sides. Now, I think back and I honestly do think it wasn't healthy for ME to be without adult conversation and something to stimulate my mind for so long. But, at the same time being able spend that much time with my children was very rewarding.

Because a lot of people feel that if you are not doing anything out side of the home then it's boring as hell. I am a housewife. I do nothing but stay at home. I have my boring days when there is nothing to do, but most of the time I am pretty busy. Housework and other stuff keeps me pretty busy.

I agree - i have a man and two kids - 1 year old and 16 year old. I spend most of the day doing their 'chores' setting up appointments, organised their day to day thing .. running them around in the car to places........getting housework done, ... shopping... playing with bubs.. when he sleeps I do more housework (never ending as you know) ... and then I have to find the time on Y!A .. this is 'my timeout' after my duties are done.
Good on you for staying at home!

Because the tasks are considered mundane and boring by a majority. I like to clean and do laundry. People automatically assume that you sit on your butt all day and do nothing. Many these days don't know what goes into running a proper household these days because many don't do it. I respect you for that. My mother made sure I had respect for women who do that, she did it for most of her life and always reminded me how much effort it goes into it.

Jealous hateful people. Some people will say you're "just" a housewife or mom to try and make you feel inferior.
My mother-in-law is like that.

They're just envious of the fact that you get to put in minimal effort for the same outcome. Of course everyone would love not having to work.. and they make themselves feel better about the fact that they have to by convincing themselves and everyone else that work is just a cure for boredom.
