I am a 29 yr old black male from NC,.....earn about 45k annually, and my job puts me in contact with people sometimes hours at time. It never fails, I always get asked by white people , "so where are you from, because you don't have an accent?" and what I feel they are really saying is "you speak so properly, you don't sound like a black person", I swear , it never fails.....,so if i say , "oh , im from NC"..... my answer still does not go unpunished, so then the questions ensue to the point where I cannot even complete my job. I know race is a sensitive issue here on the boards, but dont take it personally, this falls along the lines of white people complimenting a black person by saying they are articulate. so tell me , what's your biggest misconception?

I think I know how you feel, my being white is interpreted by many as being attached to my brain and they seem to concur a stereotype of who they think I am. It's even worse because I am a man who works as a nurse. My mentors were blacks and I lived in D.C. for awhile and I'm just a tree hugging hippie under a tree on the side of a rocky mountain. I don't think anyone will ever understand me and I don't expect them to. Biggest misconception? Perhaps thinking people can actual live together despite the color of our skin.

The biggest misconception about any race is that we are different from each other. Human Kind is all that matters. We are all brothers and sisters and will all be one shade of brown or another in a hundred years.

Racism & Racists Suck.... Not saying you are. Just speaking up to those that will be and are.

my biggest annoyance is that people call me white and group me in with every other Caucasian person in the US. they think as if i am related to the British who revolted to start this country, or their next generations who kept slaves and fought in the civil war. my family has been here for just over 100 years. its funny how racist Europeans were to each other when they first moved here. now we are all clumped together. its disgusting, just like how all black people are called, well, black. or African Americans (even the ones from England?). each person has a country of origin, and Africa is a big place.

I think it definitely has to be the whole "family" thing, always talking about "mama's home cooking"... basically, anything you see on an Olive Garden commercial. Then there's the stereotype that people in my family want people to believe: being connected to the mob.

I'm also a card-carrying member of the Church of the Subgenius and follower of "Bob" -- like above poster.

I have to admit it Im prejudice, thats right I am. I am prejudice against people not just men but women also. I am prejudice against any and all people who will not work for a living and support themselves. I am prejudice against any and all people who live off the government and dont NEED it. I am prejudice against those that will have babies and not raise them to be responsible adults. I am prejudice against people that will have sex and not face up to the responsibility of their actions. I am prejudice against someone that feels the world owes them something for being born and step on, trample over and rape, rob, and theive anyone they can to get ahead.
I am prejudice against people who cannot tell the truth. It really buts a burr under my saddle when we boast that we live in a free country with freedom of speech and religion and because what we say or beleive offends someone they spend millions of our tax dollars to shut us up. It is just this simple, if what I say or beleive offends someone, they have the right to turn around, walk away, or voice their opinion. This whole politically correct thing is way out of control. I am prejudice against someone that wants to be different chooses to wave a banner and shove their lifestyle on me, change the laws to make me a criminal, and even go as far as to make me get counselling because my thinking is wrong in their point of veiw.

With all my prejudices on the table I leave you with this thought. We all came from Adam and Eve, and then again from Noah and his family. That makes us all brothers and sisters and cousins. We are all creations of one God. One day we will stand before him and answer for what we have done.

I am just a hardworking white man with a wife and three children tring hard to get along with everyone, and pay my bills and taxes. Hating someone over their skin tone, or what they beleive is a big waste of my time.

I will give you a small story that relates to your question. My children are of Mexican heritage on their fathers side and everyso often some of the aunts and uncles fly in to see them. One day their uncle was out on the job with me and being Mexican in a predominatly white area everyone was asking me if he spoke english. I thought it was hilarious that they would ask that knowing I dont speak spanish,, how on earth did they think we communicated. What they did not know is not only did this Mexican speak English he was fluent in Japanese and French. We laughed all day about it.

My brother dont let narrow minded people get you down. Go do your job and learn to have fun with their ignorance.

God bless
d

I know some very smart black folks who cannot pronounce some words correctly for anything. I also know some very smart black folks who speak better than I do. Now honestly I know a bunch of black folks who say mens and murning ( for morning ) ect.. I blame this all on the way they are raised.

Now on the other hand I know white folks who are stupid as hell as well I don't dislike folks because of their skin color I dislike them if they are stupid.
