If Liriano comes back and pitches like he did last year...they are the best 1-2 punch, lefty or righty, in baseball. But that's a big if..he's recovering from a serious injury and we won't find out if his stuff is the same until he starts facing major league batters.

I think something could happen on the North side of Chicago if their young southpaws develop consistency. Rich Hill and Sean Marshall I think can be two elite pitchers once they get their stuff right. It's hard to argue against Santana and Liriano, but I believe that the Cubs one-two punch can one day be even better. They both had Curve-balls that have the bottom just fall out of that seem like they break like 6 feet, and have outstanding command of all of their pitches.

There is nothing to look at and say Liriano will be decent, let alone great after his surgery. It was a major surgery. His mechanics must change. Not many have come back from this surgery and been great. So it will be interesting to see if he is great. Plus - we only saw part of one season from him. A lot can happen - and did.

There's no doubt about that but who honestly has two good starting lefties on their roster that compares to the Cy young winner in Johan and the future Liriano.

We will probably have to wait for 08 on that one. I doubt we see Liriano do anything more than a few relief stints this year. We don't want to rush him back too quickly.

That's an awfully narrow statement. Not exactly going out on a limb, are we? That's like saying that Bob Wickman and Brian McCann are the best closer-catcher combo whose names start with the letter "B."

That won't be too hard to accomplish. There aren't that many teams that have two south paws in their starting rotation to begin with.
