My husband has gone on a hike for the first time with his buddies from work. It's 55 miles...I think they are insane. Is this something you would or have done?

8 miles a day is not too difficult with a light backpack. With a heavy pack on your back it's much more challenging.

i have done just that many times on many trails in many incredible places.
55 miles in a week is actually a pretty easy week and I'm glad to read that your husband and his budddies chose an easy goofing off -pace. Newbie hikers often get themselves in trouble by naively planning too many miles in a day. On reasonably level terrain 2 mph is an average pace for a lightly loaded hiker

I like hiking. I have gone further. Does your husband like to "rough it". If he doesnt he will be miserable after about 2 days. Hope he is in shape for it.

if they don't do it too often, it's ok...some kind of an exercise. but if it happens very frequently, it will eventually injure the ball joints.
