I am thankful for my extremities, they help me function
properly in daily life. The same can be said for extremes.
Keep this in mind, to see the extreme is not to be the
extreme. It is easier to distinguish between the colors
black and white than it is to distinguish between the
shades of gray. Likewise, observation of extremes can
help us define the boundaries of our beliefs.

" Extremes " ? I prefer the word " edge. . . . A little spice, edge, flavor, not the mainstream.

So...taking the liberty of ' revamping ' your word choice of " extremes . . . I'd say...No, extremes do not bother me and does add a little spice.

Keeping in mind to be respectable...For a person to be of the mindset to...." Coloring outside the lines...Thinking outside the box...Peeking behind closed doors...Pushing the envelope " . . .That's where the discoveries are.

If one stays grounded on the earth...one can't reach the stars. How does one reach the stars ? With a bit of an " extreme " attitude...carried out with thought, respect and respect.

Depending on what kind of extreme. If they are extreme Christians and they burn down a synagogue, that is not acceptable. But if they have strong opinions and they can argue them eloquently, that adds spice to a gathering.

Depends...

...If you are simply observing or not the direct object of attention of the effects of an 'extreme', it's not so painful for you and may even provide what may be considered as "a little spice"...

However, if you are attempting to have a civil or enlightened discussion which includes an exchange of ideas, and an understanding of another's position--while not necessarily embracing or accepting the opposing position, then it often is at least--'bothersome'--if not downright futile.

Ever wonder or ask yourself what exactly causes an "extreme" (as in an extreme point of view, etc.)?

The answer may surprise you--and you can study it out for yourself to see if my suggestions have any merit or not.

First, I believe that almost all "extremes" (in thought, feelings, ideologies, points of views, etc.) seem to be caused primarily by a desire to have a clear-cut, 'black and white' or 'yes or no' formula that can either be applied in either all or general circumstances.

Where does this 'desire' come from?

It seems that it comes from an UNwillingness and/or Inability to study, reason and think things out for themselves.

Often those who desire these 'yes or no'--'all or nothing' formulae are also equally eager and willing to accept these from 'approved authoritarian sources'--like teachers, pastors, priests, etc.

Again, this appears to them to 'release' them from responsibility--as "the head muckity-muck" says that this is what you should think, say and do in "such-n-such" a circumstance.

It takes work...effort...time...and energy to discover all the 'facts' and then think for yourself; and sadly enough, the majority of us do not think many things in life are worth taking the time, effort, etc., to 'think it out' for themselves.

Regards,

Far too much drama. The more polar or extreme someone is to me, the less interest I have in spending any time with that person. Extremists, while intriguing initially, prove to be a huge drain on the emotional reserves of those they touch.

Extremes repel me. They usually represent dangerous insanity. "The answer" may not lie in the middle, and often doesn't, but it certainly isn't at the extremes of anything either.

I like extremes. I think they are great adrenaline rushes and a major turn on in the opposite sex.

They can do both or neither depending on relevance.
