Yes, it's just a phrase to illustrate that where a camel can carry nothing quite easily, and will die under a weight of 50000 tons, there is some point in between where it's back will break. Simply add one straw at a time from 0 to 50000 tons and there must be some point at which its back will break, even though it is only one more straw form the last one.

you could carry a 10 lb weight. you could no longer carry a 2 hundred lb weight. someplace between 10 and a couple of hundred is the component at which you would be able to no longer make the carry. That one pound is the straw that breaks the camel's lower back.

"The straw that broke the camel's back" is not to be taken literally. It means that there is only so much a person can take, and then a tiny bit more will be enough to push him over the edge.

Take a guy who's cheated on his wife a number of times and she is fed up with him. They go out for a walk and he turns his head to look at an attractive woman. His wife runs to her lawyer and files for divorce.

She filed for divorce not because he looked at an attractive woman, but because he had cheated on her and she was sick of it. When he looked at the good-looking woman, his wife couldn't take any more. So it was a minor "sin" that pushed her over the edge and caused her to file for divorce.
