I personally like Target better. Like you mentioned, most are usually cleaner, better organized, and just have all-around better merchandise. But I found way more preemie stuff at Wal-Mart when my daughter was smaller! I mean, I still go to Wal-Mart every once in a while, but I LOVE Target. I also like Target's photography studios way better (one in particular that we go to is great, the people who work there are awesome).

Target 1000% and I'll tell you why
Wal Mart has virtually zero respect for their employees...
For example, in Canada one Wal Mart tried to unionize, and rather than actually listening to the disgruntled employees, they closed the store, laying off some 200+ people.
I read about a case where Wal Mart had hired illegal immigrants to clean the stores for one particular place that wasn't 24 hours because of cheaper labor costs
A personal example is my sister. She was techinically "part time" while she was there, despite being forced to work 45 hours; that way they could get away with not paying out benefits to her. She had to work one holiday, and she didn't get holiday pay because she had been there less then 90 days...the other people at the store that day? Every single one were new hires, not one was there that received holiday pay.
Bottom line, it goes to the saying "there's no such thing as a free lunch", in other words before you shop there actually stop to think how they get their prices that low, because they're transportation and distribution costs are only marginally lower than other retailers.

i personally prefer target not only because it's cleaner, but...
-the fact that target's business practice is WAY better than wal mart. (also target is not under much scrutiny as wal mart is on the media.)
-the employees at target seem to be happy and more willing to help out a customer than at wal mart.
-target sells designer stuff for cheap prices.
-prices are fair.
i like wal mart because due to the fact that the prices are cheaper, but customer service really does affect my opinion. most of my shopping experiences at wal mart didn't involve much of that.

I work at Wal-Mart, so I'd say there. :P All big business sucks for the average person, but Wal-Mart isn't any worse, and in some cases better, than others.
Not union means we control our own benefits and salary. At the very least, we have a say in it. The local market that was union near me was hiring for less than Wal-Mart by a considerable margin.
They really do give to charity. We have reps from the local children's hospital come in on a regular basis to give specific examples of how we have helped. Knowing we can affect our own communities encourages us to help more.
I can't, nor won't, knock Target. But I DO know that Wal-Mart will honor advertised prices of competitors. Perhaps Target does this as well...but it's handy for customers to know. And it's why I shop there. :)

Target - even though I find it to be a copy of other stores I have known I like it better than Walmart the Mom & Pop Store Killer. Target does not pretend to be something it isn't.
and BTW for the one above they have Super Targets that sell food just like Super Walmarts
