Then I tried looking throug a telescope and could see like a rock like structure almost moon like that had a quilted pattern , but the bottom still looked part of a giant jelly fish and firey.

As of 10:34 pm, it is gone
It wasn't moving and could it be that much cloudier now? There were some other visible stars that are still just as visible. I have been staring at it for at least four minutes and longer and as soon as I came to ask this and wrote it, looked, it isn't visible anymore. It does look similar to other times I've seen brighter things in the sky but none have just disapeared - I looked around and it wasn't moving and not anywhere else

It's probably Venus. Venus (in focus) is around half full right now, like a half moon but ~80 times smaller.

It wasn't a satellite because she said it wasn't moving. Also, the ISS passed fully 2 hours after the question.

Hi. To properly focus your telescope, aim at a star and focus in or out until the image is as small as possible. It should look like a point but some optical errors are a part of inexpensive optics. Try again when the weather clears up and look at the object. If it is larger than a single point then you are looking at a planet.

Probably the International Space Station. Click the link below, select United States and you'll get a list of States; select a state and you'll get a list of cities; select a city and you'll get a list of opportunities to see the ISS.

At 10:26pm tonight, it was north of New York City.

It's a killer asteroid that's about to wipe out all life on this planet. Now that you know, expect the guys in the dark suits to come knocking on your door before you spread the word too far.

Are you sure you are focussing that telescope properly.

My guess is you are looking at Venus in the NW sky, and you don't know how to focus your telescope.
