Actually yes i believe it is
after watching the movie i got curious about if it was real or not also and i looked it up and what i found is that around there. there was a young girl who got pulled in a creek by a hand and drowned ppl witnessed it and when they searched for her they found that the water was clogged of mud and sticks which it wasn't before it was clear water before.
and kids use to dissapear one girl was found later on her parents or grandparents doorstep (sry its been a long time since i looked it up) and she kept muttering about the woman who's feet didn't touch the ground.
they found out later that there was a guy who was a hermit who lived out of town in the woods that was taking young kids and disemboweling them and burying them in his basement (this is for sure true i saw newspaper articles on it and his police interview) he claimed that a women/witch in his head was telling him to do it and she told him to let one kid go i don't remember what the boys name was but later on he went crazy
then there was a guy that went in the woods one day i think he was a hunter well he came to an area of ppl that were tied to a tree and disemboweled they were all tied together he brought the sheriff out there and all the bodies were moved in the matter of hours but there was vultures and the smell of death where he found them.

that is really all i know im sorry i couldnt be anymore specific but like i said its been quite awhile since i looked it up

hope i helped take care =)

I live in Western Maryland, not far from where this movie was said to have taken place. It was a hoax. In fact, the town they mentioned was never called Blair, and there was never a witch.
And its virtually impossible to get lost in the woods around here. All you have to wait is until nightfall then follow the city lights you see at every horizon.

i live less than an hour for Burketsville md. and used to drive through it every day.

i am an occultist, and my wife if a Psychic. there is nothing but deer and birds, and maybe a dog or 2 in thoes woods.

and it is absolutely impossible to get lost here. from the top of any ridge you see either Hagerstown, Frederick, or Middletown. and in no way can you walk for 3 days and find nothing. there are too many farms and little communities scattered through the area. furthermore it is less than 20 minutes from a Major Interstate Highway.

besides it is simply fun to fish from the so called "Coffin Rock"

No, but I thought part of it was a reference to the Bell witch legend.

Of course not. The "real story" aspect was just a ploy to sell movie tickets.
