I have been composing music for a long time; nothing like teen angst or pop, just good old classical and contemporary music (stuff like George Winston). I am interesting in some contests for high school age composers, and I was wondering if anyone knew a few contests I could enter for scholarship money and cash prizes. Thankyou so much! I really appreciate your info!!!

The International Songwriting Competition (http://www.songwritingcompetition.com/ ) is quite big. You could enter your song as an Instrumental piece.

But, to warn you now, you need to look for songwriting scholarships, not music composition scholarships. I wish you the best of luck if you try, but George Winston would not be considered Classical music by any judge of music composition.

Yes, absolutely! There is a competition that is called Young Film Composers Competition. This is for those who compose music for film. If you aren't interested, then fine. The age limit for this competition is 18-35. ;-).

Here is the website :

Hope this helps. Have fun!
