my girlfriends mother had pledged her when she was 3 to an 12 yr.old boy, despite her falling in love with me,her momk forced her to marry this guy.Demeka even told her mom she loved me more and wanted to be with me.I asked her to ask her mom to what purpose did an arranged marriage serve. Her response was it was suppposed to elleviate getting to know someone, well isn"t that why we court and date someone for a period of time prior to marriage? To find common ground?well the guy is 25,and Demeka is 16,i am 48,and Demeka did not break the arranged marriage to me till 4 days b4 marrying the guy.We still love each other and communicate daily by phone and texing. What do yall think bout my question?

I find arranged marriages serve the needs of the families at the expense of happiness for the bride and groom

First off if you are 48 years old and she is 16 and you live in the USA, you are committing a crime.
If you are 48 and don't live in the US, which I assume, and love a 16 year old romantically then you are way to old to be messing around with a mere child. You are old enough to be her grandfather!

To answer your question. I don't believe in arranged marriages because you are the only one that can choose who is right for you not someone else.

I think a 48 year old man trying to court and marry a 16 year old sounds like a pedophile to me. Sorry, just an opinion.

I think you need to move on and find someone else. She's not right for you.
Sorry for the harsh comment, but thats the way it looks to the rest of the world.

I think arranged marriages are an abomination. This should not be allowed. It's a form of slavery and take all freedom away from life. It's just terrible.

what do i think of arranged marriages?

I'd say its a very low percentage way for long term happiness.

I'm surprised its still in use today in some parts
