crocodile vs tiger shark

Discovery channel had a show called Animal Face-Off. In one of the episodes, they faced a saltwater croc against a great white shark. Had scientist study and put in data for each animal and had a computer determine the winner and create a 3D fight if the fight actually occurred.

In the fight the croc had to go for air and the great white was able to capitalize and kill the croc.

Though a different species of shark, I'm betting the out would be similar with the tiger shark winning.

In all honesty it would really depend on the size of both. A tiger shark can grow to be up to 15 feet long and weigh up to 1400lbs. Yet depending on the species of croc, a Nile for example tends to be around 16 feet and around 1100lbs, however can max out around 20 feet and 2000lbs.

Lets take a full grown maxed out size/weight of both. The one thing the croc has going for it is the insane amount of tough skin the species has, not to mention every inch of them is nothing but strength. A tiger shark is very able to tear it to shreds, but it will take far more effort than something like a seal. On the other hand the tiger shark is much more capable in the water with hunting along with the fact that they are an VERY aggressive species.

On the down side if the tiger shark was able to get a good hold on the croc and not let go, it could hold the croc under water until it dies. Yet if the croc was able to make an excellent first blow that would prevent the tiger from swimming away chances are the fight would turn in favor of the shark.

Overall the fight would depend on two things.

1: The size/species of both.
2: What types of first blows are given.

Nonetheless, I would side with the shark.

Couple things that were not considered in the previous answers.

First of all, the shark is a predator that kills it's prey in a first strike, while the croc is more of a stealth killer.

Second....The shark does not have to surface in order to breathe while the croc does.

Both of these characteristics are against the croc.

However, the shark tends to hit its prey, slice and dice with it's razor shar teeth, let go and then come back to devour the dead animal. Crocs are just the opposite. They get a hold and then drag it to the bottom where it drowns. Have you ever seen the death roll? Sometimes croc's store their kill under a log or rock on the bottom of the river and devour it at a later time.

Sharks, even though they are efficient killers. they have no defenses, against an attack. There skin is soft, they have no bone structure (only cartilage). They have to remain in motion in order to breathe. These are all things that are against the shark winning a confrontation like this one.

Personally, I would like to see the croc win.

However, I think these two creatures in a one on one, fight to the death confrontation, would result in the shark's victory. It is simply faster and quicker than the croc, and could incurr mortal wounds on the croc before it could even think about attacking.

However, if the croc were to be able to get one bite and hold on to the shark, it would most definately go the other way and the croc would be victorious. The shark is just not able to fight off an attack of that nature.

All in all......I think it is a draw.......In numerous confrontations, I think the shark would win some and the croc would win the rest.

Depends on depth of water and size of critters. If both are average in size and water is anything over 3 ft. I'd say the tiger shark.
