* Natural rubies of high quality are rare and demand for them is always high. Some of the areas where topnotch rubies are mined are in political turmoil, reducing the supply even more.

* Compare rubies to red garnets. The garnets are gorgeous, but they aren't rare. A flawless natural garnet costs a great deal less than a ruby of similar quality.

Put the two side by side if you can and you can see the differences. A garnet is denser in clarity than a ruby, most rubies are clearer.

okay the garnet looks and probably weighs the same as a ruby but the difference is the quality of the stone in gem items[ruby/much more expensive/also has more carat qualities]and overall the ruby is much more harder to get[hence the expensive item]so that makes it more valuable and more costlier to buy .hope this helps.

They are two totally different stones......a ruby is red.....and a garnet is more of a purplish color......they are both beautiful stones though.

Rubies are a bright, slightly pink red.
Garnets are darker, with a little brown.
