Sometimes they have something a "cattle call", where a lot of people are invited. I think the Disney Channel had something like 24,000 kids audition.

It depends. I know a guy who just has a varied repetoire from doing theatre shows in his area...but he just packed and left for New York to audition for the Broadway show he got "famous" for.
Sometimes it's just how the cookie crumbles...or contact professional theatre groups in your area, or go to a nearby large city and ask there.
Break a leg.

Talent Agents, in NYC, submit their clients for Broadway auditions, as well as plays, if the client is "right" for a role.

Practice alot, get really good, do a bunch of regional theatre auditions... get jobs in regional theatre, get an agent, and hope your agent knows some people.
Thats the short of the long of it.
