You are right about Circus Circus being inexpensive, but it comes with a cost. We stayed a couple of years ago at the Excaliber. It was nothing fancy to be sure, but generally clean. We visited Circus Circus to see the circus shows (each one a duration of about 10 minutes) and I was completely disgusted by the filth I saw. The carpets were sticky and mushy...I felt like I was back in college at a really dumpy fraternity. I would strongly recommend looking at what you can really afford and choose a different hotel.
The other thing about Circus Circus is that it is at the very far end of the strip...the Excalibur is at the very far other end. This makes walking around very difficult.
As far as things to do, if your daughter likes shopping, etc, she will enjoy Las Vegas. Keep in mind that shopping is entertainment. Caesar's Palace, the Venetian, all of the hotels really, have free shows, fountains, etc that take place in the hotel, usually in the shopping area. There are also some really unique things to do, such as going to Sigfried and Roy's Secret Garden (almost like a zoo).
Depending on what you allow your daughter to watch on tv and movies, you will want to be careful about Las Vegas. The Sirens of TI is an outside production that is magnificent, but way too racy for us to allow our kids to see. Keep in mind that sex and gambling is what Las Vegas is all about. They threw away the whole "family friendly" thing a long time ago. There will be billboards of nearly naked women everywhere. That said, most people were very considerate when they saw our children around - I might even say moreso then normal.
It is a neat place, but it is a playground for adults, not kids and you need to keep that in mind.
I would, however, strongly recommend staying somewhere other than Circus Circus.

Just got back from there 3 weeks ago. Circus Circus has alot for kids--an indoor theme park & circus acts. The stratosphere rides would be too scary for a child. The fountains show at the Bellagio, Volcano show at the Mirage & pirate show at Treasure island are all good. Excalibur has kid stuff also. I do not know if wet n wild is still there. It used to be by the Sahara, but was not there this last trip. Hope this helps

Circus Circus is a pretty good place for the kids. As far as things to do for kids there are lots of great attractions. To many to list here. Check with your hotel concierge and he will give you a great list of places and things to see. And yeah the stratosphere is scary but that's the fun of it. Most hotel have a baby sitting service that is provided for free. They want you in the Casino and kids are not allowed so they will entertain the children for free. Don't worry about it too much. The new Vegas is not for adults only!

If coming in the warmer weather I would suggest Mandalay Bay. They have a fantastic pool. The Venetian is really nice and their rooms are suites so you are in real luxury. However the Luxor is real nice. You might try Planet Hollywood. They are just finishing up a total remodel from the Aladdin and I hear nothing but good things about them. If you want to stay off the strip you might like the Rio. The Palms is geared more for the singles crowd and more of a party atmosphere. Stay away from Circus Circus. Too many kids there. Stratosphere, Sahara and the Riviera are too far up the strip and seem to be out of the action. A good favorite is the Mirage. Not crazy about their pool and TI doesn't have a pool and you have to go to the Mirage to use theirs. Just some things to think about. Have fun .. you won't be in your room too much while here. Too much to see and do.
