I hear this all the time now on rap videos, south park and in day to day life. I guess i've been living under a rock but i'd like to know what it means/ or where it originated. Thanks in advnace.

I say dude a lot, as well as 'like' randomly in sentences. Also people have a tendency of saying "smoke my balls" which, just if you say it, you know how tight it is. I use that too... tight. And a long list of other things, such as sweet, awesome, the ****, and rad, to name a few. Anything in rap songs has a tendency of getting to my school, too. They're a bunch of conformists. But I'm not any better :]
