Since you are asking this in the laptop category, I am going to assume you are talking about the Pentium Dual Core and Core Duo for laptops, and not the Pentium D and Core 2 Duo that other people have assumed you are talking about.

The Pentium Dual Cores are Core Duos with half as much cache. The Pentium Dual Core T2060 is the Core Duo T2050, but with half as much cache, and the Pentium Dual Core T2080 is the Core Duo T2250 with half as much cache. All other specs are the same.

Pentium Dual Core was hurriedly done. They just put two old tech cores in a single package.

Core Duo (Yonah2) is a 32bit mobile processor that has better technology than Pentium D.

Core2 Duo (Conroe/Allendale) is the latest technology 64bit Intel processor that does more per clock cycle that is why it gives awesome performance even at lower clock speed.

The pentium DC was a couple of older processors put together to compete with amd's dual core. The Core Duo is the newest one, reworked and brand new, and it totally walks all over the amd dual cores.

I am gonna second the link that heartbreakerkid5 left. Though a little on the long side, the write up provides all you want to know.

So, if you're shopping for a new system look for a Core2 Duo to get the latest Intel CPUs.

From what I know

core 2 duo's use a lot less energy, so they are cooler. They are a lot faster and can be overclocked better. it cost less to be made and pretty much dominate any other series of processors right now
