Fred Thompson is about as close as it gets at the moment, and he hasn't even announced his candidacy. Some are just diet versions of conservatism, a few are just liberals pretending to be smart.

No, like in the 1970's movie, Network, go out to your window and scream, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any longer."
The reason we get so many abysmal candidates is due to the press. Few people will tolerate their lives being scrutinized to such ridiculous lengths by a slimy, unprincipled press that is interested only in sordid headlines. There are many fine people who would do an outstanding job as President, but they refuse to even consider it for the sake of their families.
Back in the days of JFK, the press had a much higher standard of comportment. They behaved themselves, and did not print information which would be damaging to the country nor to its leaders. The press was aware of JFK's infidelities with Marilyn Monroe. They knew they could sell millions of papers and magazines if they printed these articles, but the press exercised self-restraint. That self-restraint is wholly lacking in today's world.
You want Conservative candidates? Figure out a way to make the press stop vivisecting every minute detail of a candidate's life, and that of his family. This country is full of very intelligent and capable Conservatives who would make even Reagan proud. The press is at fault that we'll never even know who they are.
The press is ruining the Presidency.

Sounds like fun but it would not help the rest of us much! I think we are all pretty much screwed unless someone really jumps out and takes over. The dems are trying so hard to turn the country into a socialist nation. and the repubs all have their heads where the sun doesn't shine.

Drinking doesn't solve anything. Start speaking out demand accountability of politicians. Work towards each bill/law stand on it's own merits. Wouldn't you love it if Politicians had to run on their record & not just play lip service! Their constituants could tell whose pocket they were in.

You cant get more conservative in politics then that.. unless your the Taliban haha!
