Divde both sides of the equation by 2y and you get:

x/y = 9/2. That means the ratio of x to y is 9 to 2.

2x = 9y divide both sides by y
2x/y = 9 divide both sides by 2
x/y = 9/2 so the ratio of x to y (x/y) is 9/2. There will be 9 x's for every 2 y's.

the ratio of x to y is written as x/y. To end up with this form, first divide EACH side of the equation by y...(recall y/y = 1)

2x/y = 9

then divide each side by 2... (2/2 = 1)

x/y = 9/2

which is the answer you wanted.
