The exact ideologies behind child sacrifice in different pre-Columbian cultures are unknown but it is often thought to have been performed in order to placate certain gods.
The rituals performed in honor of the gods in Huaxtec temples included human sacrifice, with the hearts torn from the breasts of victims. The rite of flaying victims was also recorded in the region, and some ceremonies involved the use of arrows as sacrificial weapons. In one Huaxtec district, children were beheaded in services honoring Tlaloc, the rain god. The rain god worshipped by several Mesoamerican groups for his association with the agricultural seasons. Tlaloc was considered vital to Huaxtec farming and was revered by other cultures in the same role. The rituals of Tlaloc normally included human sacrifices, especially the prolonged and agonizing deaths of children.
This much we know for sure...where the children came from...how they were chosen...why...these are thigns we can speculate about, but never know for sure.......
