"Michael Z" hit it right on......
Core Duo was Intel's first series of dual core processors & Core 2 Duo was their next step in dual core processors. Think of it like Pentium & Pentium II.
The advancement in architecture was dramatic. The Core Duo was no more than a last minute marketing ploy to offer an alternative to the AMD series of dual core processors that were already in production. The X2 series from AMD literally ate the Core Duo series for breakfast.
Intel then later released the Core 2 Duo series which gave serious competition to AMD's X2 series.
At present there is no greater division between even the most advanced of PC enthusiasts than saying whether the AMD X2 or the Intel Core 2 Duo is the better choice.
Want to know the truth ? There is no better choice ..... it's like asking whether a Porche is better than a Ferrari .... "DUH" ... depends which model, dude !!!!!!!!!!!!
They are both incredible powerhouse products. AMD will give you more bang for the buck than Intel, & anyone who tells you that AMD has compatability issues or overheats has no idea what they are talking about.
