I can understand your excitement with Verlander coming off a no hitter. At this point he is 7-2 and 2.79 which is very good. The Angles have Lackey 10-4 and 2.53 and Escobar 7-3 and 2.89. The Oakland guys Haren 7-2 and 1.58 and Gaudin 6-1 and 2.43. There are several others in the mix and I don't think you can rule Verlander out but he would a big mountain to climb to forge ahead of everyone.

As a huge Tiger fan I would love to see Verlander win the Cy young, but it is too early to tell. The no hitter was impressive, but there are a lot of really good pitchers in the AL. Beckett is right up there, and Johan is still sick, and look out for C.C in the Central, he's been lights out this year too.

At this point, you have to give it to Haren. A no-hitter is only a one night performance. The Cy Young is based on an entire season. Verlander is a good pitcher, but I think there are better out there in the AL.

Alot of you are plumb nuts!! Beckett?? Lackey?? cc?? Dan Harren has a 1.58 ERA!!!!! In this day and age that is amazing!! Especially in the AL. If everyone keeps going as is Harren will win hands down not even close. However Johan always is great in the second half so we'll see. In my mind at seasons end it will come down to Harren, Johan, and Lackey but Harren already has a huge lead. Verlander has no shot. He's good and will be one of the best eventually but not yet.

7-2 2.79 era 68 K's, good numbers, but not CY Young-telling numbers.
He's young, so there's no telling if he can continue the stats into the second half of the season.
The no hitter is threw this week can't hurt his chances of getting some votes.

Lackey, Sabathia, and Haren are better bets to get the award.

a no hitter does not make a CY YOUNG winner...
the man has potential & everybody in the AL in not pitching exactly lights out. it will be between Lackey & Verlander & Beckett

Sure he has a shot....as do about 20 other pitchers when you have 60% of the season left to play.

maybe............ but he could go 0-10 the rest of the year, one no hitter doesn't make you Cy Young
