JKR: Joanne Kathleen Rowling. Not a pen name per se. But it is true that she didn't want to be known as a woman at the start. (Assuming of course that she isn't covering up for a publisher's decision).

Joanne Kathleen Rowling... she went by J.K. because she thought that she wouldnt' get as many readers, being a female writer.

I think her first name is Joanna. We usually call her Jo.
