Funny you should ask, I had hundreds of cards and letters in an old chest and a few weeks ago I went through them and threw a lot away.
I am so sentimental it was really hard and the ones I couldn't bear to part with I have started to put on disc so they take up less room,it's taking ages but it will be worth it.
Oh the wonder of modern day technology!

Yes, I have since I was a child and I'm 53 years old. This is History, for my children, right now my 3 sons 32, 31, & 27 aren't into it.
But, when I'm long gone and they start reading them they will learn a lot of little things along with Important things about their Mother. If they don't care about them, I truly believe my grandaughter who is 7 years old will. I know I treasure the letters that are from my husband's side of his family from the civil war. I'm a Hopeless romantic!!! And I Love History, I buy diaries at auctions because I can't stand to see them go, they were So Important to someone, And I want to Value them for them. I cherish anything that someone Special took the time to write me, to think I was that important in their life to take the time to write to. Especially in this day and age.

I keep a few, not many. There came a time in my life where I could save everything, or I could actually move around the house. My wife values space to move around in, so it's really in my best interest to prioritize. There are some letters that define events, or bring back especially important memories, but there are a lot that were just nice to get. (and of course there were the ones that I really would never have gotten at all)

Yes, though I've lost much in a peripatetic life what I've kept fills cartons. I keep it all mostly through laziness and getting on with life. And also because I know amongst it there are some odd treasures that could interest future generations and be worth preserving with the papers of some of my friends in the National Library. The dross of the past can have unexpected value to the future.

Let's just say I NEVER throw anything away. There's not one card, not one note, love letter, old photo, theatre ticket; I even have a poem a little girl gave me when I was ten. Valentines when I was in the 4th grade. Fortunately, I have a large storage, but from time to time--I run across some things I have in my den, & even if I can't remember the name of the person, I can't imagine discarding something. It would invalidate the person it "represented." I wouldn't say I'm a pack rat, but some things just have value...

To my despair, yes I do. I have file folders of all my friends back to the year one; I even keep envelopes (wow what a difference in the rate of postage) & I keep wanting to sort them in chronological order, but never seem to have the time. Yet, by pure serendipity, (I think), sometimes I'll remember something & go to a messed up file 2 inches deep, & find exactly what I was thinking of. Then, I get mired down in reading letters, but it's okay. I always get some new insight. THE WAY WE WERE.

I have a pile of old letters from an ex. I kept the last birthday and Christmas cards my parents sent me, and have lots of notes and drawings from my nephews and nieces.
You're always so polite! You have a great night/day too

Yes I do. For the most part. I still have all these notes, and letters from this one guy I dated back in 9th grade, (over 10 yrs ago). Sometimes I like to go back and just read them and think how cute and silly we were being so young, hehehe.

Yup. If they make me smile, I keep them. It is always nice to "come across" notes from old friends, teachers, mom and dad... I love the feeling that, at that moment in time, I was the person that person was thinking about. And sometimes, out of nowhere, I will write to the person who thought of me -- even many years later.
I recently came across a box of old letters from an old penpal (circa 1966) from Jamestown, NC. (Roberta, are you here?)

I keep ones with lots of meaning, especially ones that remind me of a hard time I may have gone through. It's nice to know you have people who love and support you in your time of need. I used to save everything, especially the cards and letters my husband gave me when we were dating. We dragged them out of an old box, reread them, and then burned them (he didn't want anyone to find them if we both died- they weren't bad or anything, just extremely sappy).
