i now want to know a little about external hard drives....im looking in the price range of up to about 140 150 dollars....i want to find something that will hold songs and videos and such so that my laptop is not bogged down....i was just wondering if their were brands i should watch for or avoid...and if external harddrives have speeds or certain things about them that i should look for in quality and such....do some work faster or better than others is what i mean i guess... and what should i look for...thanks guys!

Avoid Maxtor above all others. Not that they are bad, however, it is a fact that their failure rate is highest.

Go with Western Digital & you will be using the best (along with Seagate) that money can buy.

I bought an external 500Gigabyte hard drive from Newegg.com for 142USD including tax and shipping :D

they usually are really good prices and there really isn't anything to keep away from. just make sure you get one that you have a port to (ex don't get a firewire one if you only have USB ports)
