This was from my first pap smear. I'm 23. I'm going back to my doc in a week to get a biopsy, I guess, and they're doing something where they look at my cervix closer with a microscope. What does this mean for my fertility, general health, should I tell my ex (I'm currently single), and what are my chances of this progressing to cancer? I didn't have any symptoms, and I've been tested for STDs before (which came back negative) so I thought I was fine.

For your fertility it means there will be a decreased chance in your becoming pregnant but not impossible or even unlikely. I think once the docs get you back on track you'll be healthier and thus more fertile as your cervix is healed. Your chances of this progressing to cancer are low as of right now, as long as you continue to do what the doctors order. There is a connection between hpv and cervical cancer, and the advanced abnormal squamous cells could be early cervical cancer, but bc you are seeking treatment, you will not continue to develop cancer. But even if you do have cervical cancer, which you probably don't, then you will still get better bc it is early in the stage as you have no symptoms as of yet (such as unexplained vaginal bleeding, very painful intercourse). If you are close to your ex and still have sexual relations with him, then yes you should tell him, but otherwise you dont have to if you dont feel comfortable. If you feel that he gave you the hpv, then you should confront him courteously if you feel comfortable to.

HPV is treatable but not curable. It can lead to various cancers. Did a doctor actually diagnose you with squamous cell CA? If so, that's not a cancer you want to fool around with. Do whatever is necessary to remove the cancer from your body. Good luck - God Bless.

Paps only term high risk HPV which are found in cervical cancer. Doesn't mean you have cancer but there is a possibility in the future you will. Cervical cancer can be cured with the right treatments and if it is caught on time

This is the joy of being a woman.

They will most likely after testing, cauterize it.

Your cervix is just part of the delivery system for a baby. The hormones, ovaries and uterus are the urgent part RE: fertility.

I'm definitely not an expert on this, but I would take your doctor's advice. Good for you for getting a pap smear.
I've heard that HPV in women is quite common and I don't think it is any indication of STDs.
Best of luck to you.

Don't worry pre-maturely, I'm sure you will be fine. I personally know 4 women with HPV and all 4 have 2 kids each.

Good luck!!

5 years ago I was in the same situation. Don't worry....I have a daughter. Stress makes it worse. Once it is removed and you eat healthy, exercise and try to keep stress to a minimum, then you will not have any problems.
