First off, Congratulations!! You've chosen the single most high paced and competitive career in the world!

Secondly, if you are doing this for any other reason than your love of film or theater. DON'T!!!! Turn around, go to college and make something of yourself.

Acting is nothing short of a grueling, arduous, and often times heartbreaking job choice. There will be times when you will be living on naught but ramen and tap water, but if you are good at it, the payoff can be sheer ecstasy, both for your soul and your wallet.

The one piece of advice I can offer after having spent most of my life up to this point as an actor/writer is to never stop fighting for what you want. You only get out as much as you put in. If you hear of anything, whether it be local dinner theater or Broadway, run after it....opportunities are few and far between in the world of acting and you have to be willing to fight thousands of other hopefuls for them. Keep a thick skin, rejection will happen three times as much as hiring, it's not personal, it's just the buisness.
As for auditions, check around your town for local theater companies, they hold auditions every year, also Playbill.com has a section of classifieds centered around performing. As for film, I'm not to sure but Auditions.com seems pretty legit.
Oh, and beware of scams!!!!!!!! Agencies will come to towns across the country "scouting for talent", beware of these. You should never have to pay and agent or agency upfront for anything but head-shots (even then, reputable ones will take them at no cost to you). A true agent gets paid a percentage of however much you make...they must find you work to get paid themselves, these mock agencies will just string you along asking for money for this and that and you won't get much decent work by them the entire time.

Now that I've typed your ear off.... I hope at least something of what I said was useful to you....And no matter what, don't get discouraged...Acting is the best career of them all...You can be Whatever you want!!!!! Stay in the came and it will be the most rewarding thing you have ever done!!! I promise!

Best of luck,
Jake
