If you are referring to the 1950's, Debussy was long dead by then (Achille-Claude Debussy lived between 1862 and 1918), and his music was called Impressionist, though he didn't like the term. The music of the 1950's is known as DOO WOP and was the beginnings of rock and roll (which really got going in 1956, when Elvis became popular). Some of the singers of doo wop were Jackie Wilson, the Chiffons, the Five Satins, The Platters, and similar groups.

Claude Debussy died in 1918. Listen to Clair de Lune on line and you decide if his music is good.
