4y - 5 = 7 - 7y

bring all the y terms to one side of the equation and all the free terms to the other

4y - 5 + 7y = 7 - 7y + 7y (adding 7y to both sides)
11y - 5 = 7 then add 5 to both sides
11y - 5 + 5 = 7 + 5
11y = 12
11y/11 = 12/11 (divide both sides by 11

y = 12/11

When you are starting out, take everything slowly and do every step.

4y - 5 = 7 - 7y

Get all the y values on one side by adding or subtracting to cancel out on the other.

4y + 7y - 5 = 7 - 7y + 7y

11y - 5 = 7

11y - 5 + 5 = 7 + 5

11y = 12

11y * 1/11 = 12 * 1/11

y = 12/11

4y-5=7-7y

11y=12 collect like terms- so you would add 5 to 7 and add 7y to 4 y

y=12/11 divide 12 by 11 and solve for y

4y-5=7-7y subtract 4y
-5=7-11y subtract 7
-12=-11y divide -11
y=12/11 and since you have a negative in the numerator and
in the denominator it cancels out and becomes positive. you are trying to isolate the y by either subtracting,adding, diving, multiplying to both sides.

you should move the ys to the same side by adding 7 y to both sides

11y-5=7

add 5 to both sides

11y=12

divide both sides by 11.... and
y=12/11 or 1 1/11
