I find it to be a very thought provoking song. There's a lot of truth in that song. Yup. Me and my dad are good examples of this song. Sadly he's gone. He passed Feb 06.

I believe it's a song of very true meaning basically the same as the saying stop and smell the roses if you don't pay attention to the now you begin to wonder where it all went & relize you can't have it back

I used to be huge into Harry Chapin I have the multiple CD greatest hits with book of his life story somewhere at home still. I really need to pull that out again.(Story of a Life it's called) As for Cats in the Cradle, I liked it well enough but it was no where near my favorite of his... I tend to shy away from mega hits and tend to like obscure stuff more. That could be why... but my favorites by him...1. Any old kinda day (I love this song, I miss it...time to pull out the CDs) 2. Circle 3. The 'Taxi' saga 4. Better Place to be 5. Sunday Morning Sunshine 6. 30,000 pounds of banannas 7. Dance Band on the Titanic 8. I wanna Learn a Love song 9. Always Seventeen 10. W*O*L*D

I am familiar with the song due to being a product of the 60's.... but I am not familiar with the lyrics. I believe any song that causes you to remember the memories you shared with your father has to be profound. I lost my brother years ago but I don't hear music and think of his memory. I am exposed to situations that get me thinking of him. I will find that song at the vintage music store and give it a listen. I am also looking for... Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan.

Don't become so self absorbed in your carreer that you miss out on your children groing up. No matter how much $$ you make and provide for your family, you can never go back and capture what you let pass by.

It reminds one that time passes so quickly- so make the best of your time alive with your loved ones- and make sure that you tell them so and appreciated them as often as you can.
Very true!
Sorry for your loss- my dad passed July 05- it is still tough!
