I don't think I would ever allow my girl to do that b/c it greatly increases the risk of skin cancer plus if she were to keep doing it, her skin would become 'leathery' when she got older.

Thank God there are smart men like you out there who care more about healthy skin than tanned skin. It's really too bad that so many women are willing to roast themselves in an attempt to look better.

Did you know that adding vitamin D into your lifestyle can help ward off depression, heart disease, stroke, cancer, and osteoporosis. The reason lies in the characteristics of ultraviolet light rays, and how these rays affect the body.

Both the sun and tanning beds emit two types of ultraviolet light rays, UVA and UVB. The skin absorbs both types, but in different ways. UVA rays have longer wavelengths that penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin, whereas UVB rays’ wavelengths are short and only reach the surface layers of skin. UVB rays also metabolize vitamin D, and thus are solely responsible for the healthy benefits of sunshine. For most people, exposing one’s arms and face to sunshine for about 20 minutes per day provides the skin with enough UVB rays to eliminate vitamin D deficiencies, without causing long term damage to the skin.

The trick to tanning my friend is taking care of your skin. Just like with anything else like dying your hair, without the proper care your body will obviously take a bad turn. If your girlfriend wants to tan, I suggest going to a tanning salon that has a high amount of UVB and about 1-2%of UVA since UVA rays cause damage. Start off by going for 2-4 minutes every 3 days then bumping it up 2 minutes every week. Depending on the bed that you use the time will vary. You should not burn nor see results within the first couple of times you go, this is normal. And please use a certified tanning lotion, I suggest one from Designer Skin, that has a bronzer in it. Ps. Tanning outdoors is in an uncontrolled environment, so in all reality, the tanning beds are actually better for you. And dont forget to always use sunscreen and other forms of protection like a hat or sunglasses WHENEVER you are outdoors. I hope this helped :-)

I think he might allow me to use a tanning bed (if I wanted to). But first he'd have to cover me with a 3 inch layer of SPF 2 million then cover my skin from head to toe in a radiation suit or something like that. Even after all that, if I proceeded to get in the tanning bed, I'd be sick as a dog after 30 seconds. On to 2nd degree burns after a minute and rushed to the hospital with 3rd degree burns after 2 minutes. Yes, I burn that easily.

All that said and done, I don't need permission to use a tanning bed. I'll lay in one if I want to... just have to make sure it's unplugged first. LOL

I can do whatever I want, but I agree with you when you say tanning beds aren't good. I'm at an extremely high risk for skin cancer, since it runs in my family. Because of this, I try to stay as pale as possible.

I use it sparingly, It doesnt hurt to have a nice tan during summer. I have found that laying out to tan is much better for the skin then the UVs from tanning. My hubby would rather me lay out than use the tanning bed.

Occasionally in the winter he will if he sees the lack of sun is getting me down but he would perfer I didn't. I for one ferfer being on the lighter side in complexion. I tan nicely and it lasts forever but I feel better looking lighter and knowing I am not damaging my skin. Plus Makeus shows better on light skin.

Even if any guy allowed me to use a tanning bed, I still wouldn't want to. I make my own decisions...and if I wanted to get a tan, I would prefer to catch some rays the old-fashioned way...the sun.

First of all, I don't need permission from my mate for any reason-we do not have that type of controlling relationship.

And 2nd of all, you wouldn't get me near one of those places!
Those tanning beds do more harm than the real sun!
I don't even lay in the sun anymore-I smartened up about that years ago.
If I desire a little color, they make some great self tanning products nowadays..

Allow me??? Since when does another person who isn't my mother have the right to allow me or disallow me to do anything??? Advise, sure I understand, Request, maybe, ask politely with good reason, fine, but no matter the topic, you habe no right to be "allowing" her to do/not do anything.
Now that we got that clear, no, my husband would advise me, request of me, and ask me politlely NOT to use a tanning bed for those reasons you have mentioned above.
