This team has been 2-3 years away since about the mid-90s. Their history of developing players has been bad for that time. But if a player wants the money and likes relish on his hot dogs, then Chicago is the place.

The Blackhawks were rumored to go after a superstar but Tallon said that last year. They did get Havlat but that was through a trade.

The Blackhawks are already cleaning house with the departure of Arkie, Holmers, and Alexeev. It appears they are making room for either their young guys or some free agents.

Yeah, Blackhawks will make a bid for Drury, Briere, and Gomez. But I don't think they will sign.

If the Blackhawks make a move I think it will come through another trade. But i don't think Tallon is willing to part with any of his young players, which is a good thing.

But look on the bright side. Sharp is only 26. He had 20 goals and kills penalties.

Ruutu is still a young player. Only like 23 or 24.He played great in the World Championship. He is the type of player that would make an impact come Playoff time.

The Hawks have a great young defense led by Seabrook, Duncan Keith, James Wiz. and Cam Barker. They have so much young talent at defense. That is why they were able to trade Kukkoknen.

Goaltending is solid. Great starter. Great backup.

Some of the best prospects.

And of course Havlat.

It is looking good for the Blackhawks and even though Wirtz is a bad owner, they did make it to the Finals with him as owner. (way back when)

I don't know the Blackhawks well but they are in a rebuilding process and so far haven't made too much progress. And typically a superstar athlete isn't interested in going to a losing team or a team where it might take a few years. I think the only way a superstar would go to the Blackhawks is if they do a lot of work this summer to show they are serious and want to win now. It's not as if they are missing one ingredient to becoming a success, they are far from that. They have young players with skill but they need more. So they will definitely need to do a lot of work to show they want to win next season and then shell out some money to get the superstar. But I think the chances of that happening are slim.

Obviously you haven't really paid much attention to how Bill Wirtz, their owner, operates and treats his players and staff. Even when he has had the money, he usually refuses to spend it, so most players will find themselves underpaid. They have sucked for years, and that has rarely resulted in anyone getting paid more to play there than other places. They spent a little right after the lockout, but the overpayment of such mediocre players as Khabibulin, Aucoin, and Lapointe is going to make Wirtz extra conservative. They are not on television, which hurts them financially as well as sinks their popularity. Meanwhile, having "several young players" doesn't mean a thing. Lots of teams have that, and have been much more successful at developing those players than the Blackhawks have. A lot of players have underachieved there, and it is not just a coincidence. The entire administration of the Blackhawks is based more on Wirtz's loyalty to his friends and his desire to pad his wallet at the expense of the product he produces. They haven't won the Cup since the 1960s, and nothing indicates that this is going to change anytime soon. It just isn't a good hockey environment right now, and likely won't be until you get an owner that actually cares. Good luck!

what makes you think their prospects will ever prosper??

The Blackhawks have some very excellent prospects like Crawford, Barker and Toews... but so do the BlueJackets and Panthers and look where they are - almost 10 years of rebuilding and it doesn't look like any of those teams are making the playoffs anytime soon...

no star wants to be really part of a rebuilding plan, as when the team matures and that star's salary increases, he is most often not part of the long-term plans, usually traded by trade deadline...

Blues grabbed Weight, Tkachuk, Guerin and Rucinsky this past off season... you think any of these guys will be around when the Blues become good? I doubt it...

Unfortunately the team is run so poorly that this isn't going to happen.

Ownership and management have shown over and over again that they lack the ability to make the Blackhawks an attractive option for free agents. Not to mention the fact they have some problems evaluating professional talent.

I agree that Chicago has a lot of potential down in the farm teams. I guess it depends on how the GM plans to use them, meaning will he hold on to them or not. I don't think it would be such a bad idea to go to Chicago at this point though.

And who is your Goalie??? You're gonna need one to win a cup. I dont care how many forwards/defense you have that are great you need a big time goalie (or a decent goalie whos hot)
to win the cup. You guys got Habbibulin (cant spell) right? not sure if i trust him

Muldoon's curse still lives in Chicago. espo thought they put it to rest but they didn't. No self-respecting hockey player wants to play for Wirtz, the club has always screwed over their hockey talent.
