If you didn't continue loving someone, you didn't love them. If you try to forget them, did you really love them? Love is forever. It allows us to forgive and it allows us the strength to keep trying. However, as humans, we are given the ability to choose who we love. (this can be unfortunate if you love someone who doesn't love you) In my opinion, you should always try to have that one thing that you could never have, however, try for something different. The majority of the time, you Will find something bigger and better. Take a look at all the things in your life that you have had and have lost. Chances are, the things that you have had came back as something better in the future!! If you truely love someone, you won't forget them, you will just find comfort in something better:) Like my saying goes: You can find love, but you you may not get love in return......so find something else to love.

Yes, and the reason being is in the worst case scenario, the two would still be life long friends. Seriously, why throw away a perfectly good relationship simply based on the logistics. The two can still be there through the good times and the bad even though not physically there. And above all, a great friendship is a lot stronger than any romantic love. Once a strong friendship has been established, you have a foundation that is very stable to build off of.

I'm kind of in the same predicament myself, really the best thing to do is just try and get over the person. Not all at once, but just think about the person less and less each day, surround yourself with friends. At first you're going to feel like it's impossible to go on, everytime you breathe you'll get a pain in your stomach, like something is missing. In time, however, the numbness will go away and will be replaced either by friendship or perhaps even another relationship.

There are so many of us who have been in this situation. Coming to terms with it and moving on becomes a matter of survival. I don't think that you have to forget someone because you can't be with them; as so many have stated, you can't just turn love on and off. I do believe that if we work at it and are fortunate, we can turn it to a less raging emotion and relegate it to a small corner of our hearts, where it can become a muted, bitter-sweet memory

You should never forget them, for when the memory of them comes back up, it will only hurt worse than what it does already. And you never know, miracles could happen. Life might actually be on your side this time.

I've loved someone for about ten years like that...but now he's just a good friend. I know now that he wasn't THE one anyway. I could never forget someone I loved, even if it was just for a moment in time.....

If you truly love someone, you can't just stop loving them overnight. I love someone it seems I can/will never have. I try my best to forget them, but no luck so far (3 years and counting).

Yes, they will live in my heart forever, even if I never see them again. Love can't be switched on and off at will and besides, it is not possible to forget what some-one has meant or mean to me.
