I wanted to go on a trip to Charleston SC, so I couldn't justify taking money from savings. Instead, I took a second job for a few hours a week conducting voluntary political surveys for about 3 months.

At least 10 times during my temporary employment there, I had people say "I will only take your survey if you tell me your political affiliation. Are you a democrat or a republican?" I would refuse but then they would say "you tell or I hang up." We only were paid for the surveys we completed so I said "republican." They would say... wrong answer and hang up. 10 TIMES!!!

Finally I started telling people I am a democrat when they ask because that was the only way I would be paid. This is a pretty good reason to lose respect for liberal democrats, no?

I swear on the lives of all those I know and love that I was hung up on for admitting that I was a republican.

I also had a part time job doing political surveys at one time, if you only had ten people be rude to you, you were lucky. Democrats aren't the only rude people, I had my share of people from red states tell me it was none of my business what their politics were.

I'm a Democrat and a liberal, I don't see any conflict. Maybe most Democrats you know don't fit into the ridiculous anti-American, Communist caricature that conservatives have turned "liberal" into but most Democrats look back to FDR as the party's biggest hero, who pretty much introduced "big government" liberalism to the US (Hillary and Obama's "complete government support" is much more watered down than FDR's New Deal and proposed Economic Bill of Rights).

This story is either concocted to "show" that surveys are slanted, or else you were cheating your employer by not obeying the rules for conducting the surveys. I believe that people may have wanted to know whether you were conducting the survey FOR the Democrats or the Republicans, but not that they cared whether you, personally, were one or the other. Nonetheless, you introduced sampling bias into the survey and cheated your employer.

No.

Because republicans are famous for twisting the facts and words of Democrats to fit their agendas.

I bet if it was the other way around, and you were surveying republicans, and told them that you are Democrat they would have not only had the phone call traced and taped, but they would have had the SC Militia after you.

1. I'm not like that so don't put assume "All liberals are____". I don't say "All conservatives are____".
2. Yes, it was rude for them to hang up on you like that, people are just jerks sometimes. Sometimes peoples' ideologies can get in the way of common sense and decency. (OMG! A different viewpoint!!! AHHHH!!!!)
3. You can really get a job doing that, taking surveys? Always thought those kind of things were scams and such. You learn something new everyday I guess...

Well, the people you were dealing with were clearly idiots. Assumign this were true. I'm sure most people wouldn't have an issue.

I'm a dem and would no issue with doing a survey for repubs. Who cares-- they're asking questions.

Here's a worse one-- In Arizona, Republican were running voter registration drives. IN AZ you have to state your party to vote in the primaries. These people were registering Republicans, but if a Dem had signed up, they thru their registration away. Now does that make you lose respect for Republicans?

Does that tell you how much damage this President has done? I guess it's a pretty good reason for loosing respect for him too. Don't worry his clone brother will run in 2012, you can vote for him and get the same results as George W. is giving us now just in case you haven't had enough.

Did you have that problem with conservative republicans too when you said you were a democrat?

People who identify themselves as "liberal democrats" or "conservative republicans" tend to be really partisan and extreme compared to those that label themselves just as a democrat or republican.

The Republicans have a reputation for sneaky tactics and so they probably were just being cautious.
