This morning I awoke in my bed in Mexico to thunder. I made coffee at 5AM and waited for the rain. I dozed off again and dreamed I was underwater breathing without difficulty. The water was green and cool and not very deep. I was face down and watching bottom slowly creep away behind me . there were a million or more Sapphire blue gems the size of pinheads floating with me in that water. The sapphires would pick up the light from the lightening, (yes the lightening in my real life flashing in my window. and reflect it onto the walls and ceiling of my room) During this time I was joined by a sea horse, the most glorious yellow shades I have ever seen ( or dreamt )The horse swam close to me and nudged me trying to get me to respond with more that wide eyed wonder.
This is freedom, The ability to dream and know I am dreaming. It is a good life!

1) The right to make your own decisions and not have them decided for you. Regardless of right or wrong; considered right or wrong; you have the freedom to make that interpretation and perception.
2) Being able to live your life without every action you make being recorded in video, sound or written.
3) Less broadcasting of rubbish (ie propaganda) and always in your face (ie News 24 in Wetherspoons - I should have the right not to have it being broadcast into my subconscious).

We have television, radio and newspapers all repeating their interpretations and discussions to the point are we making up our own mind or just accepting what someone else has been told he can say. I don't know that I want to be forced to listen to how x's dog was run over in Maidstone this afternoon etc... I don't care.

As much as I am for freedom, there are times when deciding rules of society are a good thing. Only it seems to me it is the politicians that decide what rules are made, not the people. The people only have a point-of-view on it. So that is all manipulated and beneficial to governments, not the people.

Freedom is the responsibility - than more free actions you make than more responsibility you take as a creator. Being allowed to do everything or go wherever you want doesn't mean to be free - very often the free spirit blooms under totalitarian systems (French Resistance during German occupation or Russian rock-music wave during late socialism). Anarchy is not freedom, because it quickly turns into tirany. Freedom is a sort of harmony with the laws of the Universe.

Freedom is relative. If I am locked in a room with no windows I may yearn for the freedom of an open space and feel trapped. If I am locked in a room with no windows with someone I want to be locked in a room with I will feel neither trapped nor the need to escape. In the same way an open field may quite restricitve to an agoraphobic or someone who suffers from hayfever but the epitome of freedom to another person

first of all I'm surprised that the response to this question isn't overwhelming , mabey there all too busy fighting ,

freedom is not a word its a way of life and a state of mind

it is attainable but not for you the individual, it can only benefit all
freedom is not a commodity or curacy ,
it is when the enemy of all mankind is quashed when the social sickness that infringes on very existence is gone ,
when all of our children are protected from the madness that dwells within mankind when global maturity steps in and all Nations acknowledge there incestuous nature and accept there breeding and indoctrination off human pedigree mascots to be both barbaric and inhumane ..it would all so call for the global used technique of survival credits ..[money] to be discontinued as this in itself paradoxically perpetuates many factors that openly promote a lack of freedom ..to add to this i must say that the day when the women and children from all borders and sides lay saddened in a great battle of futility already upon us, and the true warrior has the greatest battle a man can ever undertake the battle of self for earth and in doing so embrace former foes and so liberating our world.....forget men going to mars the thinkable is the doable

treat every child as your own all women as your sisters and every man as your brother

then freedom will no longer be a dream

Freedom, for me, is first of all the freedom to fulfill my potential as a unique individual without hindrance from other people or the state and, hopefully, with their support.

It is ethical and responsible and takes into account the welfare of my fellow man or it is licentious, destructive and leads to the breakdown of society and the tyranny of the powerful elite over the weak majority.

Freedom is based on rights and we all have them (in practice the reality is sometimes different but they are still ours) because we are human and for that reason alone. They include:

All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and human rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.

No one shall be held in slavery or servitude or tortured.

Everyone has the right to recognition before the law.

No one shall be subject to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

Every one has the right to freedom of opinion and expression and the right of peaceful assembly and association.

Everyone has the right to work and to equal pay for equal work and also the right to rest and leisure.

Everyone has the right to an education and to free education in its fundamental stages.

These freedoms which are taken from the U.N. declaration of Human Rights are, you could argue, the product and conclusion of centuries of strife. They are what we have learned and what we aspire to and not every country has them so we who do have them should protect and promote them and not take them for granted or as givens - our own recent ancestors didn't have them.

Without any of the above freedom means nothing.

Free of Ego's = Freedom of the Soul

Freedom for me is the ability to look any man in the eye and say what is in my heart regardless of the circumstance. Freedom is being able to smile and powerfully face adversity even when I'm tired. Freedom is being able to love my enemy. Freedom is being happy and thankful for what I have now rather than lament what I don not have.

For me freedom is the life long fight to move back the barriers of acceptability by doing what is not in itself illegal, but is regarded by many people as wrong.
By challenging convention, and doing things publicly which other people would not do, I am forcing the limits of freedom back enough to allow me to be who I want to be.

Every freedom given us carries a restraint, both cars, and buildings which represent freedoms, restrict the pedestrians, so they are forced to walk in narrow lanes.

Every body's freedom is their personal struggle to be who they want to be.
